Probably the first of many in her little life, but the Roo performed her first face plant last night. For your viewing pleasure...

So I should sign the Roo up for yoga classes. Here's a video of her working her "all four's" and also practicing the popular yoga move. Needless to say I didn't realize she had spit-up on her arm until about the 50-second-mark. Mom of the year, right here, ha!

Half-a-year-old

This past Tuesday, October 18th, our little girl turned 6 months old; crazy! She's everything and more we ever wanted and is getting to be more precious and more fun by the day. To sum up this wiggly girl:

• EVERYTHING goes in her mouth. She wants everything you have (so she can put it in her mouth)!


• She's got the crawling stance down to a tee. I'm trying to capture decent video of this, but it hasn't quite happened yet.


• She definitely knows her name. Call it once and she'll look in your direction.


• She gets a kick out of Holly, especially when Holly is excited. She looks at her as if it's the most amazing thing she's ever seen.


• We're starting to love peek-a-boo and patty-a-cake.


• She loves to touch your face, especially when she's eating. She's starting to twirl my hair as she eats.


• She doesn't get stranger anxiety so much yet (atleast not the screaming-type) but she definitely knows her Mom & Dad and stares at us when someone new is holding her.


• She sits with support.


• She loves to stand and does really well just holding your hands.


• She loves her feet.


• We've tried applesauce, avocado, banana, peas, pears, peaches, green beans, sweet potatoes, and squash. She reallllly likes squash (crazy kid).

I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out, but this is her in a nutshell. We're really looking forward to the holidays and all the fun that will be had in the coming months. I'm sure April will be here before we know it! :(

Trip to Rolla/Elkhart (aka God's Country)

Last weekend we made the nearly 6 hour journey to the wonderful barren land that is also known as extreme Southwestern Kansas.  Most people don't know that anything exists much past Salina, let alone Dodge City.  Holly stayed at Grandma's (and had a blast) and we kept on a'trucking to Elkhart.  Friday night we made the trip to Rolla for a very important dedication that was to take place before the Rolla vs. Ashland football game.  They dedicated the field to Papa Plummer!  It was also dedicated to Daddy's old high school football coach, Gary Bane.  Gary Bane and Papa Plummer Field it now is!  Despite the long drive we had an awesome trip and can't wait to see that family again at Thanksgiving.

Feeling all "philosophical"

As I’ve grown older, I’ve really been thinking a lot about life in general and how precious time is.  Since the Roo was born it's hit me like a ton of bricks.  I recently had my 10-year-class reunion and quoting Michelle Weinberger, “It’s been TEN years since HIGH SCHOOL?  Where have I been?”  Take that same time span and fast forward ten years from now.  Riley will be TEN years old, starting fourth grade (not to mention I’ll be pushing 40….already)!  I think my point is people tell you all your life how short life is but until you get older and wiser do you actually recognize it and appreciate it.  My Great Aunt Georgiann recently passed away at the age of 82.  Her “yesterday” was rocking her baby girls to sleep.  Her “yesterday” is my today.

My Aunt & Uncle lost a baby daughter to Trisomy 18 just a couple of days ago.  Their strength and faith in God is amazing to me.  While most would ask him "Why me?"  They simply responded with "There's a reason you chose us, Lord.  This will glorify you!"  You never know when life will be over.  Our faith in God is what we need to hold on to.

A verse I came across while doing my bible study for the week hit the nail on the head.  Quoting The Message bible (since it’s good at putting things in laymen’s terms for people like me):

James 4:14-15

"You don't know the first thing about tomorrow. You're nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, "If the Master wills it and we're still alive, we'll do this or that."

With all this being said, we can’t fret about it.  You could worry yourself to death over things like this (or I could, anyway).  Instead, no matter how many people tell you, we need to live each day to its upmost fullest.  Kiss our babies just one more time, because before long they not only won’t be babies, but will probably say “Aw Mom, you’re embarrassing me!”

Good for a Wildcat...!

The Roo had her first tailgating experience this past weekend and it was a bona-fide success.  Beautiful weather, awesome friends from near and far (Rob & Alicia visited from Wichita), delicious food, and most importantly, a Wildcat win!  Our friend, Madeline, joined us in representing the purple, too.  We didn't go into the game but rather went home at gametime and watched it in enjoyment on our couch in front of our 50" Samsung plasma TV.  To these old fogeys, that's heaven-sent.
